Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
At UNL, we empower generations to lead boldly, courageously, and with purpose greater than ourselves. And thus, when the call came from President Gold, I answered “yes.”

How we respond to challenges defines us and builds resilience. Challenges compel us to examine our core values and align our actions with our goals. We are strongest when we face obstacles together — working with humility and purpose to build a positive future. The same principles that guide individuals through difficulty apply to the university as it advances its vision: confronting obstacles directly, staying true to its values, and moving forward with clarity and resolve.
I am more certain than ever that at the heart of a UNL education are transformative learning experiences that spark curiosity, foster a love of lifelong learning, and deepen analytical and reflective capacities. These experiences shape students for lasting success, fuel Nebraska’s economic vitality, and distinguish UNL as a truly exceptional university community.
I am energized by the opportunities ahead for UNL in 2026 and beyond as we strengthen community, collaborate purposefully, and engage in meaningful dialogue that shapes our shared future as the flagship institution. With Charter Day just over a month away, we will have an excellent opportunity to highlight the important work underway and look ahead together. More information about a Charter Day event will be shared soon.
This past year has been challenging and has affected many across our university community. Colleagues who have worked closely with me know that I value diverse perspectives — when shared respectfully — early in the development process. Engaging in this type of dialogue is essential to effective co-creation, as it builds trust and leads to stronger outcomes.
Our faculty, staff, and students form a vibrant intellectual community with a long tradition of innovation and determination. Engage openly, collaborate thoughtfully, and bring creativity and innovation to your many endeavors this semester.
I am honored to lead UNL as we boldly contribute to Nebraska’s tomorrow of limitless promise and potential.
